Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi met with Mr. Nukaga Fukushiro, the Speaker of Japan’s House of Representatives, and his delegation, which included notable Japanese Parliament members and influential business leaders. This meeting highlighted a renewed focus on deepening the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between India and Japan.

Central to the discussions was the progress toward the 5 trillion Japanese Yen investment goal for the period 2022-2027. Both Indian and Japanese officials expressed approval of the current achievements and explored further avenues to enhance business and economic ties beyond 2027. They also examined opportunities for collaboration in traditional manufacturing, known as monzukuri, as well as in advanced sectors like semiconductors, electric vehicles (EVs), and sustainable energy solutions.

Mr. Nukaga Fukushiro introduced a forward-thinking proposal to cultivate a new generation of professionals by providing training in Japanese language, culture, and work practices. He suggested that these trained individuals could act as a bridge between India and Japan, fostering deeper connections and more effective collaboration. The proposal also emphasized the role of the private sector in supporting these educational initiatives.

In response, Prime Minister Modi underscored the recent reforms and the favorable business environment in India designed to attract more Japanese investment and technological advancements. He reaffirmed the Indian government’s full support for these initiatives, stressing the commitment to facilitating a robust and collaborative partnership.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project, a flagship initiative that both sides recognized as a critical component of their partnership. The discussions marked a significant step in reinforcing the bilateral relationship, setting the stage for continued cooperation and mutual growth in various sectors.
