Prime Minister Narendra Modi today delivered a compelling speech at the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari Initiative, emphasizing the vital role of water conservation in ensuring a sustainable future for India. In his address, Modi reflected on India’s historical expertise in water management, acknowledging that the country, despite holding only 4% of the world’s fresh water resources, has long practiced sophisticated methods to conserve and utilize this limited supply. The Prime Minister highlighted the achievements of the Jal Jeevan Mission, a flagship program aimed at delivering piped water to rural areas. To date, this mission has succeeded in providing reliable water access to over 15 crore households. Modi also spotlighted the Jal Shakti Abhiyan, which has evolved into a significant national movement. This campaign has led to the construction of more than 60,000 Amrit Sarovars—large-scale water bodies designed to enhance water storage and groundwater recharge. He lauded accompanying programs such as Catch the Rain and Namami Gange for their focus on rainwater harvesting and river rejuvenation, respectively.
