Basavaraj Bommai Criticizes Karnataka Government for Releasing Water to Telangana

Date:

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai has strongly opposed the Karnataka government’s decision to release water to Telangana, calling it “totally uncalled for” and detrimental to the interests of Karnataka’s farmers and residents.

Bommai expressed concern over the severe water shortage in regions under the Almatty and Narayanpur dams. “There is a shortage of even drinking water in these areas. There is no water to irrigate summer crops. In such a situation, releasing water without anybody’s knowledge is unbecoming,” he stated.

Accusing the state government of prioritizing political interests over public welfare, Bommai alleged that the decision was made to appease Telangana. “They are prioritizing politics over the interest of the people of Karnataka. They want to please the Telangana government,” he remarked.

The issue has sparked a political debate, with the opposition questioning the government’s decision-making process and transparency in handling Karnataka’s water resources. Farmers and local leaders are also expressing concerns over the potential impact on agriculture and drinking water supply.
