Reacting to Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi’s statement on Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami, Karnataka Assembly Leader of Opposition (LoP) and BJP leader R Ashok strongly condemned the remarks, emphasizing that Shami represents India as a whole, not any specific community.
“He is representing India, not any community. He needs strength to play against another country, so I condemn the statement given by the Muslim leader,” said R Ashok.
The controversy arose following comments from Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi regarding Shami’s identity and representation in cricket. The BJP leader’s response highlights the importance of unity in sports, urging that players be recognized for their contributions to the nation rather than their religious affiliations.
