BJP Opposes Karnataka Government’s Approval of 4% Minority Quota in Government Contracts

Date:

Bengaluru, India – BJP MLC N Ravikumar has strongly criticized the Karnataka government’s approval of a 4% reservation for Muslims and minorities in government contracts, calling it “anti-constitutional” and “anti-democratic.” Ravikumar’s remarks come after the state government’s decision to allocate the quota, which aims to support minority communities in securing government contracts and business opportunities.

In a statement, Ravikumar expressed his opposition, stating, “It is not right to give 4% reservations to Muslims and minorities in government contracts. It is anti-constitutional and anti-democratic. The BJP will oppose it.” He further questioned the decision, urging Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to clarify how the implementation of such a policy would affect others. “We ask Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar what others will do?” he added, implying that the policy could create an imbalance in the allocation of opportunities.

Ravikumar also announced that the BJP would raise the issue in both Houses of the state legislature on Monday, signaling that the opposition party would take the matter to the floor of the assembly to voice its concerns and challenge the government’s decision.

The Karnataka government’s move has sparked a political debate, with proponents arguing that the minority quota would empower underrepresented communities and help promote economic equality. However, the BJP’s objection reflects a broader opposition to what they perceive as preferential treatment based on religious identity in public contracts.

As the debate continues, all eyes will be on the legislative session on Monday, where the BJP is set to formally oppose the policy.
