Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence Visits HAL Facilities in Bengaluru

Date:

Bengaluru: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence on Friday visited the facilities of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Bengaluru to review the state-run aerospace major’s ongoing projects and contributions to India’s defence preparedness.

According to a post shared on HAL’s official handle, the 10-member delegation was led by Committee Chairman and Lok Sabha MP Radha Mohan Singh. The visiting team was received by Dr. D.K. Sunil, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), HAL, along with the company’s Directors and senior officials.

The committee’s visit comes at a crucial juncture as HAL continues to play a pivotal role in India’s indigenous defence manufacturing push, including the production of fighter aircraft, helicopters, and advanced avionics systems. The interaction is expected to provide lawmakers with first-hand insights into HAL’s operational capabilities, production facilities, and research and development activities.

In recent years, HAL has been in the spotlight for its contributions to flagship projects such as the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH-Dhruv), and the upcoming LCA Mk-2 and AMCA (Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft) programs. The parliamentary committee’s engagement underlines the emphasis on oversight, accountability, and sustained progress in indigenous defence production.

The visit also aligns with the government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, which aims to reduce dependence on foreign defence imports and strengthen India’s self-reliance in the aerospace and defence sector.

With HAL continuing to expand its production and export footprint, the review by the Parliamentary Standing Committee is seen as a step towards enhancing synergy between policymakers and defence manufacturers.
