Bengaluru | As political uncertainty continues to intensify within the Karnataka Congress, BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra on Thursday held the ruling party solely responsible for the turmoil, asserting that neither the opposition nor the media can be blamed for the ongoing crisis. His remarks come amid reports of widening differences between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar over leadership issues and internal power-sharing arrangements.
Speaking to the media, Vijayendra said, “Neither the BJP nor the media nor the people of Karnataka can be blamed for the crisis within the ruling Congress party. The Congress has to blame itself.” He criticised the persistent visits of the top state leadership to Delhi, adding, “Every week, the CM and the Deputy CM are camping in Delhi seeking an appointment with Rahul Gandhi.”
The BJP leader also took a direct swipe at Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge, calling him “helpless” in the current situation. “He says he has nothing to do with this episode. Only Rahul Gandhi has to take a call,” Vijayendra remarked, suggesting that the high command’s indecision has worsened the political instability.
Vijayendra said it was inappropriate for Congress leaders to accuse the opposition or the media of fuelling the crisis, stating that the responsibility lies squarely within the ruling ranks. “Rather than blaming the media or the opposition party, the CM, as well as DK Shivakumar, have to set their house in order,” he added.
The ongoing rift within the Congress has sparked speculation about possible cabinet reshuffles and power tussles, even as the government faces mounting criticism over governance, law and order, and its poll guarantees. Vijayendra’s comments reflect the BJP’s efforts to intensify pressure on the ruling party while highlighting its internal discord.
