PM Narendra Modi to Inaugurate Micron’s Semiconductor ATMP Facility in Sanand on February 28

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Micron Technology’s new Semiconductor Assembly, Test, and Packaging (ATMP) facility in Sanand on Saturday, February 28, 2026. The event is scheduled to begin at around 3:45 PM, following which the Prime Minister will address the gathering.

The inauguration marks a historic milestone in India’s semiconductor manufacturing journey, as the Sanand ATMP facility will commence commercial production and shipment of Made-in-India semiconductor memory modules for the first time.

Major Boost to India’s Semiconductor Mission

The project was approved under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and was the first proposal cleared under the initiative.

Key Highlights of the Project:

  • Foundation stone laid in September 2023
  • Total investment of over ₹22,500 crore
  • Rapid construction following approval, reflecting the government’s commitment to strategic semiconductor investments

The facility is expected to significantly strengthen India’s position in the global semiconductor value chain.

State-of-the-Art Cleanroom and Advanced Manufacturing

Once fully operational, the Sanand ATMP facility will feature approximately 5 lakh square feet of cleanroom space, making it one of the largest raised-floor cleanrooms in the world.

The plant has been designed to cater to the growing global demand for:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications
  • High-Performance Computing (HPC)
  • Advanced memory and storage solutions

The facility will convert advanced DRAM and NAND semiconductor wafers from Micron’s global network into finished memory and storage products for customers worldwide.

Aligning with Atmanirbhar Bharat Vision

The Sanand semiconductor unit represents a significant step toward establishing India as a reliable and competitive destination for semiconductor manufacturing.

The project aligns closely with the Prime Minister’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and building a robust technology ecosystem in the country.

Following the inauguration, industry experts expect accelerated investments and job creation in India’s semiconductor and electronics manufacturing sectors, reinforcing the country’s ambitions to become a global technology powerhouse.
