Last-Mile Problem Eases as Feeder Buses Connect Bengaluru’s Yellow Line Metro

Date:

Bengaluru, April 2026:
In a significant step toward improving urban mobility, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation has rolled out dedicated feeder bus services to enhance last-mile connectivity for commuters using the Namma Metro Yellow Line.

The initiative is designed to connect residential pockets and interior layouts to nearby metro stations, addressing a long-standing challenge that has affected metro ridership in several parts of the city.

New Loop Routes Cover Underserved Areas

BMTC has introduced new loop services—MF-22E and MF-22EA—targeting areas that previously lacked reliable public transport. These include:

Harluru
Kasavanahalli
Choodasandra
Sarjapur Road stretch
Iblur Junction

These neighbourhoods, characterized by narrow roads and rapid residential growth, had limited access to direct bus services, forcing residents to depend on private vehicles or auto-rickshaws.

Seamless Metro Integration

The feeder buses are aligned with key stations on the Yellow Line, including:

Hosa Road Metro Station
Singasandra Metro Station
Kudlu Gate Metro Station

This integration is expected to significantly reduce travel time and effort for daily commuters, making metro access more convenient and efficient.

Operations, Frequency, and Fare

Bus frequency: Approximately every 35–40 minutes during peak hours
Fleet size: Currently limited, with a few buses deployed per route
Fare range: ₹6 to ₹25 depending on distance

Although fares are economical, commuters have pointed out that increasing frequency will be crucial for the service’s long-term success.

Positive Response from Commuters

Early feedback indicates that the feeder buses are already making a difference. Commuters say the service:

Reduces dependency on autos and private vehicles
Lowers daily travel costs
Simplifies access to metro stations
Improves overall commuting convenience

Urban transport observers view this as a key move toward integrated public transport in Bengaluru.

Challenges Remain

Despite the benefits, several issues need attention:

Insufficient number of buses leading to longer waiting times
Lack of real-time tracking and digital updates
Inadequate bus stop infrastructure and signage
Need for better route awareness among commuters

Experts suggest that scaling up operations and improving service visibility will be essential.

Future Plans

Officials from BMTC have stated that the service is currently being monitored. Based on commuter demand and ridership trends, plans are in place to:

Increase frequency of buses
Expand feeder routes to more areas
Improve infrastructure and commuter information systems
