Rajgir, Bihar — Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new campus of Nalanda University in Rajgir, Bihar, ushering in a new era of educational excellence and sustainability. Spread across expansive grounds, the campus features two Academic Blocks housing 40 classrooms with a combined seating capacity of approximately 1900, ensuring ample space for lectures, seminars, and interactive learning experiences. Additionally, the campus boasts two auditoriums, each accommodating up to 300 individuals, facilitating academic conferences, cultural events, and public lectures.

Sustainable Design and Eco-Friendly Initiatives

Setting a benchmark in environmental sustainability, Nalanda University’s new campus operates as a ‘Net Zero’ Green Campus. It integrates renewable energy solutions, including a solar power plant to meet its electricity needs, reducing its carbon footprint significantly. Water conservation efforts are bolstered by domestic and drinking water treatment plants, along with a comprehensive water recycling system that ensures efficient reuse of wastewater. With 100 acres dedicated to natural water bodies and green spaces, the campus promotes biodiversity and serves as a model for eco-friendly development in higher education.

Founded over 1600 years ago, the original Nalanda University emerged as a beacon of learning in ancient India, attracting scholars from across Asia and beyond.
