Karnataka Cabinet Approves Ramanagara to Bengaluru South Renaming: BJP MP Pralhad Joshi Criticizes Move

Date:

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Cabinet has officially approved the renaming of Ramanagara district to Bengaluru South, a decision that has sparked significant controversy and criticism from various political quarters.

Union Minister and BJP MP Pralhad Joshi has sharply criticized the move, accusing the Congress party and the state government of displaying an “allergy” towards the name ‘Ram’. Joshi claimed that the decision to rename Ramanagara is a reflection of the Congress party’s ongoing disdain for Ram and the Ram Mandir, a sentiment he suggests has been evident since the construction of the Ram Mandir.

“This shows their allergy towards Ram and Ram Mandir, even to the name of Ram. They are quite allergic,” Joshi remarked. He asserted that the renaming decision is not driven by public demand but rather by “vote bank politics” and “greed for real estate.” Joshi further pointed out that local MP Manjunath had expressed opposition to the name change, reinforcing his argument that the move lacks genuine support.

Joshi also addressed the remarks made by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who claimed to have Ram in his name. “Siddaramaiah says that when it comes to Ram, he has Ram in his name. If that is the case, why are you doing this?” Joshi questioned, expressing frustration over what he perceives as a contradiction in the Chief Minister’s stance.

The BJP MP condemned the renaming decision and called for its immediate withdrawal. He warned that if the proposal is not rescinded, the BJP would mount strong opposition, and the local unit would lead protests against the decision.
