Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday lauded the Indian Navy as INSV Kaundinya embarked on her maiden voyage from Porbandar to Muscat in Oman, calling it a proud moment that showcases India’s rich and ancient maritime traditions.

In a post on social media, the Prime Minister said it was “wonderful to see” the ship begin its historic journey. Highlighting the uniqueness of the vessel, PM Modi noted that INSV Kaundinya has been built using the ancient Indian stitched-ship technique, a traditional method that reflects the country’s long-standing seafaring heritage.

“This ship highlights India’s rich maritime traditions,” the Prime Minister said, congratulating the designers, artisans, shipbuilders, and the Indian Navy for their dedicated efforts in bringing the unique vessel to life.

PM Modi also extended his best wishes to the crew, expressing hope for a safe and memorable journey as the ship retraces India’s historic maritime links with the Gulf region and beyond.

INSV Kaundinya is seen as a significant cultural and historical initiative, aimed at reviving ancient shipbuilding knowledge and underscoring India’s historical role as a major maritime power with strong trade and cultural connections across the Indian Ocean region.
