Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday chaired a pre-Budget meeting with leading economists in New Delhi, as part of the government’s preparations for the upcoming Union Budget 2026–27, according to an official statement.

The meeting was attended by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery, and several eminent economists. Discussions during the interaction focused on key economic priorities, policy challenges, and suggestions for the forthcoming Union Budget.

Officials said the deliberations aimed at gathering expert inputs to strengthen economic growth, enhance fiscal planning, and address sector-specific concerns in the Budget.

Earlier, Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman had held 10 rounds of pre-Budget consultations as part of the preparation process for the Union Budget 2026–27. These consultations brought together representatives and experts from major sectors of the economy.

The discussions involved stakeholders from agriculture and MSMEs, capital markets, manufacturing, services, and technology, among others, to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive approach to Budget formulation.

The pre-Budget meetings are seen as a crucial exercise by the government to incorporate expert feedback and align fiscal policy with the country’s long-term development goals.
