Bengaluru: In a move aimed at enhancing urban infrastructure and commercial activity, authorities in Bengaluru are planning to develop a modern commercial hub at the MG Road Metro station, one of the city’s busiest transit points.
The proposed project, led by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited, seeks to transform the metro station into a multi-functional urban space featuring retail outlets, office spaces, co-working hubs, and premium commercial establishments.
Officials indicated that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to promote transit-oriented development (TOD)—a model that integrates transport infrastructure with commercial and residential spaces to maximize land use and commuter convenience.
The MG Road Metro station, located in the heart of the city’s central business district, witnesses heavy daily footfall. The planned hub is expected to capitalize on this traffic, generating new revenue streams for metro operations while offering enhanced amenities to commuters.
Urban planners believe the project could significantly contribute to decongesting other commercial zones and creating a more organized business environment. It is also expected to attract investments and create employment opportunities in retail and services sectors.
The proposal is currently in the planning stage, with further details regarding project cost, timeline, and private sector participation likely to be announced in the coming months.
If implemented, the development could mark a major step in strengthening Bengaluru’s position as a leading metropolitan and economic hub in India.
