Kalaburagi–Bengaluru Vande Bharat: Terminal Shift to KSR Bengaluru Under Consideration

Date:

Bengaluru, April 9: The Kalaburagi–Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express service may soon see a change in its terminal station, with plans under consideration to shift its Bengaluru end to KSR Bengaluru City Junction from its current terminus at Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal Bengaluru, according to railway sources and preliminary proposals. This move comes in response to long‑standing public demand for better connectivity and convenience for passengers travelling to and from northern Karnataka.

The proposed change — still awaiting formal approval from higher authorities — is aimed at improving operational efficiency and linking the Vande Bharat service more directly with Bengaluru’s central railway hub, which offers wider local and long‑distance connectivity options. A terminal shift to KSR Bengaluru City Junction could make transfers easier for commuters, especially those travelling to major parts of the city and beyond.

In addition to the possible terminal change, officials from South Western Railway (SWR) have also discussed adjustments to timetables and operational patterns for two Vande Bharat Express services originating from Bengaluru. These include proposals on timing revisions designed to better align with passenger demand and network capacity.

The Kalaburagi–Bengaluru Vande Bharat—which was initially introduced in March 2024 and operates six days a week between the two cities, covering a distance of around 548 km—has been a significant addition to rail connectivity between Kalyana Karnataka and the state capital. While the service currently starts and ends at SMVT Bengaluru, commuters and regional stakeholders have expressed that a shift to KSR Bengaluru City Junction would help them access local transit links more easily upon arrival or departure.

Railway officials have not yet issued a formal notification or timeline for the proposed changes. Approval from the Railway Board and coordination with the Ministry of Railways will be key before any official implementation is announced. Once finalised, the decision is expected to be communicated through official channels, and passengers will be advised to check updated train schedules and reservation details on Indian Railways portals.

The potential shift reflects a broader push to enhance passenger convenience and streamline train operations as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen rail connectivity in and around Bengaluru and northern Karnataka.
