Bengaluru | April 11, 2026: The Bengaluru civic authorities under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) have set a strict deadline to complete flood prevention and stormwater management works ahead of the monsoon season.
The GBA has directed officials to complete all key flood mitigation projects by the end of May 2026. The instructions include desilting of stormwater drains, strengthening drainage networks, and ensuring proper maintenance of flood-prone zones across the city. Engineers have been warned that failure to meet the deadline could lead to disciplinary action, including suspension.
The plan also includes drone surveys of major drains, on-ground inspections of vulnerable areas, and coordination among multiple civic agencies to ensure faster execution of works. Several infrastructure projects such as new stormwater drains, lake-linking channels, and wetland development are also being fast-tracked to reduce waterlogging risks in low-lying areas.
Officials said the goal is to minimize flooding during heavy rains and improve urban resilience in Bengaluru, which has frequently faced monsoon-related waterlogging issues in recent years.
