Bengaluru, April 2026: Karnataka has become the first state in India to unveil a comprehensive Quantum Ecosystem Map, marking a major step towards strengthening its position in cutting-edge technologies and deep-tech innovation.
First-of-Its-Kind Initiative in India
The Quantum Ecosystem Map, prepared by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), provides a detailed overview of the state’s capabilities across:
- Research institutions
- Startups
- Industry players
Officials said the initiative is designed to identify strengths, bridge gaps, and accelerate the transition of research into real-world applications.
Launch of Phase-1 Quantum Roadmap
The unveiling of the map also marks the launch of Phase-1 of Karnataka’s quantum technology roadmap, signalling a structured and long-term push into advanced technologies.
The move aligns with global trends, as countries increasingly invest in quantum computing, communication, and sensing technologies.
‘Q-City’ to Drive Collaboration
A key highlight of the state’s strategy is the proposed “Q-City”, envisioned as a dedicated quantum hub that will:
- Bring together academia, startups, and industry
- Act as a single-window ecosystem
- Enable faster innovation and commercialisation
A detailed project report for Q-City will be prepared under the supervision of a Quantum Task Force.
Push for Talent and Startup Growth
To support the ecosystem, the government has announced:
- ₹10 crore funding for skilling, research, and startups
- Leadership under experts from IISc to guide implementation
The initiative aims to build a strong pipeline of skilled professionals in quantum technologies.
Vision to Become Global Quantum Hub
State leaders said that Karnataka is already emerging as a national frontrunner in quantum innovation, with Bengaluru playing a central role as a global tech hub.
With additional investments, including a ₹400 crore deep-tech fund, the state aims to expand innovation beyond Bengaluru and position itself as a global leader in the quantum domain.
