Bengaluru–Mumbai Premium Train Service to Begin Soon, Says Ashwini Vaishnaw

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday said that a premium train service connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai will commence soon, signalling a major upgrade in long-distance rail travel between the two key metropolitan cities.

Speaking to the media, Vaishnaw stated that the proposed service is part of the Indian Railways’ broader efforts to modernise passenger travel and offer faster, more comfortable options on high-demand routes. He noted that Bengaluru and Mumbai are among the country’s most important economic hubs, with significant business, industrial, and technology linkages, resulting in consistently high passenger traffic.

According to the Minister, the premium train will be designed to provide enhanced passenger amenities, improved travel experience, and reduced journey time compared to existing services on the route. While detailed specifications regarding the train’s features, schedule, and fare structure are yet to be formally announced, officials indicated that the service would align with the Railways’ push towards semi-high-speed and premium category trains.

The announcement comes amid ongoing infrastructure upgrades and capacity expansion across the railway network, aimed at improving connectivity between major cities. Vaishnaw emphasised that Indian Railways is focusing on both modernisation and passenger convenience, while maintaining operational efficiency.

The Bengaluru–Mumbai corridor is one of the busiest rail routes in the country, catering to professionals, traders, and tourists alike. The introduction of a premium service is expected to ease congestion and provide an additional travel option for passengers seeking faster and more comfortable journeys.

Further details on the launch timeline are expected to be shared in the coming days.
