New Delhi: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday described Artificial Intelligence (AI) as the “fifth industrial revolution” while addressing the media on the second day of the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi.
Highlighting the transformative potential of AI in India, the Minister said the summit is serving as a major platform to tackle large-scale population-related challenges and is generating renewed enthusiasm among the country’s youth.
AI as the Fifth Industrial Revolution
Calling AI a defining force of the modern era, Ashwini Vaishnav stated that Artificial Intelligence has the potential to reshape economies and societies globally.
He emphasised that India must leverage AI to:
Boost economic growth
Improve governance and public service delivery
Address large-scale demographic challenges
Ensure balanced and responsible technology deployment
The Minister also cautioned that while AI offers immense opportunities, policymakers must ensure that its potential harms are carefully managed.
$200 Billion Investment Expected in AI Sector
In a major announcement, Mr. Vaishnaw said that investments worth over $200 billion are expected in the next two years following the India AI Impact Summit. The projected investment reflects growing global and domestic confidence in India’s expanding AI ecosystem.
Digital Public Infrastructure Driving AI Growth
The Minister highlighted India’s robust digital public infrastructure (DPI) as a key enabler of rapid AI adoption. He noted that platforms developed over the past decade are accelerating innovation, startup growth, and AI integration across sectors.
