A contingent of the Indian Armed Forces has arrived in Seychelles to participate in the 11th edition of the joint military exercise ‘LAMITYE-2026’ with the Seychelles Defence Forces.
The bilateral exercise will be held from March 9 to March 20, 2026, at the Seychelles Defence Academy. The word “LAMITYE”, derived from the Creole language, means “friendship.” The biennial exercise has been conducted in Seychelles since 2001.
Significant Participation from Indian Armed Forces
India’s participation in the current edition is considered significant, with personnel from the Assam Regiment, along with members of the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force, taking part in the exercise.
The Indian Navy’s stealth frigate INS Trikand and an C‑130J Super Hercules aircraft of the Indian Air Force are also participating in the joint training.
Focus on Coordination in Unconventional Operations
The primary objective of the exercise is to enhance coordination and interoperability between the armed forces of India and Seychelles, particularly in conducting unconventional operations in semi-urban environments.
The exercise will also focus on improving cooperation during peacekeeping operations, enabling both sides to exchange skills, operational experience, and best practices.
Tactical Training and Modern Technology Demonstrations
During the joint exercise, troops from both countries will conduct a series of tactical drills designed to address potential threats in semi-urban settings.
The programme will also feature demonstrations of next-generation equipment and modern technologies, highlighting advanced military capabilities and operational strategies.
Field Training and Final Validation Exercise
The 12-day exercise will include field training exercises, tactical discussions, case studies, lectures, and demonstrations.
The training will conclude with a two-day validation exercise, where the participating forces will apply the lessons learned during the programme.
Strengthening India–Seychelles Defence Cooperation
Officials say the joint military exercise will play a crucial role in enhancing mutual understanding, strengthening defence cooperation, and deepening bilateral military ties between India and Seychelles.
