BJP Leader CT Ravi Criticizes Congress Over Savarkar Comments and Cow Slaughter Debate

Date:

In response to Karnataka Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao’s recent comments regarding Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, BJP leader CT Ravi launched a strong critique, accusing the Congress party of promoting a divisive agenda. Speaking at a press conference, Ravi claimed that Rao’s statements are indicative of a broader support for cow slaughter and cow meat, which he argues runs counter to the values espoused by Mahatma Gandhi.

“Did Congress people forget what Gandhiji said? He said that if he got power for one day, he would completely ban cow slaughter,” Ravi emphasized, drawing on Gandhi’s legacy to highlight the perceived contradictions within the Congress party’s current stance.

Ravi further articulated a distinction between fundamentalism and nationalism, asserting that India’s partition was a consequence of fundamentalist ideologies. “Today, Congress supports fundamentalism. Do they want to make a Pakistan inside India?” he questioned, framing the issue as a crucial debate over national identity.

He argued that India requires a strong sense of nationalism to foster unity among its diverse population, criticizing the Congress party for what he sees as a departure from this principle. “India needs nationalism,” he stated, calling for a return to values that promote national integrity and cohesiveness.

Ravi’s comments come amid heightened political tensions in Karnataka, where debates over historical figures like Savarkar and issues related to cow protection continue to spark controversy. The BJP’s strong stance on nationalism and cow protection remains a central theme in its political discourse, especially as the party seeks to consolidate its support in the region.

As the political landscape evolves, the BJP’s emphasis on these themes is expected to resonate with its base while challenging the Congress party’s narratives leading up to upcoming elections.
