BJP’s R. Ashoka Dismisses Rahul Gandhi’s Allegations on Election Commission

Date:

Bengaluru | Karnataka Assembly Leader of the Opposition and BJP leader R. Ashoka has strongly rejected the recent allegations made by Congress leader and national LoP Rahul Gandhi regarding the Election Commission (EC).

Responding to Gandhi’s claims, Ashoka said, “The allegations raised in Mahadevapura during the Lok Sabha elections, when the Congress government was in power in the state, raise a question: how did it happen? Why didn’t they approach the court? These are just allegations without any proof.”

Rahul Gandhi had recently accused the EC of failing to ensure transparency and fairness in certain constituencies, including Mahadevapura in Karnataka. However, Ashoka countered that if Congress truly believed in their claims, they should have pursued legal recourse rather than making public statements without substantiating evidence.

Ashoka also pointed out that the Congress government was in power in Karnataka at the time of the alleged incidents, implying that any irregularities, if they occurred, would raise questions about the ruling party’s own administrative oversight.

The BJP leader stressed that the EC has a constitutional mandate to conduct free and fair elections and that undermining its credibility without proof harms the democratic process.

Political analysts note that this exchange is part of a growing war of words between the BJP and Congress over electoral conduct, with both parties accusing each other of manipulating the process for political gain.

Ashoka’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions as both national and state-level parties prepare for upcoming by-elections and local body polls in Karnataka.
