Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Highlights South High-Speed Diamond in Union Budget 2026

Date:

Delhi: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday announced the creation of a South High-Speed Triangle—or South High-Speed Diamond—connecting Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. This ambitious infrastructure project was highlighted as a key component of the Union Budget 2026.

Vaishnaw explained that the new high-speed rail network will significantly reduce travel times between these major cities. Chennai to Bengaluru travel will be cut down to just one hour and thirteen minutes, Bengaluru to Hyderabad will take two hours, and Chennai to Hyderabad will be reached in under three hours, specifically two hours and fifty-five minutes.

The minister emphasized the strategic importance of this project for the five South Indian states—Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala—and the Union Territory of Puducherry. “Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad are major economies, large cities, and significant IT hubs,” he said, adding that this high-speed diamond will act as a powerful growth multiplier for the region.

Vaishnaw concluded that the project will not only boost economic activity and connectivity but also enhance the quality of life for millions of residents across South India, contributing positively to India’s overall development.

This initiative marks a major push towards modernizing India’s transport infrastructure and strengthening regional economic integration.
