National Science Day 2026: PM Modi Highlights Role of Science in Driving Innovation and Development

On National Science Day 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored the transformative power of science, stating that when knowledge is combined with scientific understanding, solutions to crises naturally emerge.

Sharing a video message on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said that science remains the foundation of innovation, development, and problem-solving. Referring to ancient Indian wisdom, he noted that the integration of knowledge and science paves the way for overcoming global challenges.


Celebrating the Legacy of C.V. Raman

National Science Day is observed every year on February 28 to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect by Nobel Prize-winning physicist C. V. Raman in 1928.

PM Modi highlighted that the Raman Effect revolutionized the field of science and firmly established India’s presence in global research. He emphasized that the day celebrates the spirit of research, innovation, and scientific curiosity that continues to propel India forward.

The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening India’s research ecosystem, empowering young innovators, and leveraging science and technology for national growth and global well-being.


Leaders Applaud India’s Scientific Community

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla extended greetings to citizens, stating that Dr. C.V. Raman’s discovery elevated India’s scientific stature worldwide and became a symbol of Indian excellence in research and innovation.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also praised scientists and innovators for pushing the frontiers of knowledge. He acknowledged their contributions in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, space exploration, defence, IT, healthcare, agriculture, and renewable energy.


India’s Expanding Global Scientific Influence

India continues to strengthen its global scientific footprint through major initiatives and breakthroughs. From space missions like Chandrayaan and preparations for Gaganyaan to advancements in green energy and affordable healthcare, Indian science is offering impactful solutions to global challenges.

National Science Day 2026 serves as a reminder of the importance of promoting scientific temper, encouraging research-driven thinking, and fostering innovation across society. The occasion honors scientists, researchers, and students whose dedication is shaping a self-reliant and technologically advanced India.
