Bengaluru Metro to Open Early to Ease Travel for TCS World 10K Event

Date:

In view of the large-scale participation expected for the upcoming TCS World 10K Bengaluru event on April 26, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced special arrangements to ensure smooth and convenient travel for runners, volunteers, and spectators. The metro system will begin operations earlier than usual on Sunday, reflecting the city’s preparations for one of its most prominent international road races.

According to officials, Namma Metro services will start at 3:30 am on Sunday, significantly earlier than the regular Sunday operating schedule, which typically begins around 6:00–7:00 am. The early start is aimed at facilitating the movement of thousands of participants heading towards central Bengaluru, where the race is scheduled to take place.

The decision comes as part of a coordinated effort to manage the expected surge in commuter traffic during the event. The TCS World 10K Bengaluru, one of India’s most recognised distance-running events, attracts elite athletes, amateur runners, and fitness enthusiasts from across the country and abroad, making transportation logistics a key priority for authorities.

BMRCL officials stated that trains will operate from all major terminal stations, ensuring connectivity across both the Purple and Green Lines. Services will initially run at regulated intervals before transitioning to normal frequency later in the morning. This arrangement is designed to ensure that early-morning commuters can reach their destinations without delay or congestion.

The marathon route, which passes through several central areas of Bengaluru, will also require extensive traffic management. In coordination with city police, multiple roads are expected to face restrictions during the event hours. As a result, the metro system is expected to play a crucial role in providing an efficient alternative mode of transport for participants and residents.

The TCS World 10K Bengaluru has grown over the years into a major sporting and community event, promoting fitness, endurance, and public participation. It is also widely recognised for its charitable component, with proceeds and awareness campaigns supporting various social causes. The event typically draws thousands of runners across categories, including elite international athletes and amateur participants.

Officials noted that the early metro service is part of a broader strategy to encourage the use of public transport during large city events, reducing road congestion and ensuring smoother mobility. The metro has previously introduced similar early or extended services during major marathons and public gatherings in the city.

Transport authorities have also urged commuters not participating in the event to plan their travel accordingly, as certain stretches of roads in central Bengaluru may experience diversions and temporary closures during race hours. The metro is expected to serve as the most reliable mode of transport during this period.

Over the years, Bengaluru Metro has increasingly become a backbone of urban mobility during high-density events, offering a faster and more predictable alternative to road travel. The early morning service adjustment once again highlights its role in supporting large-scale public activities in the city.

As Bengaluru prepares to host thousands of runners on April 26, the special metro arrangement underscores the city’s emphasis on efficient crowd management, public convenience, and smooth execution of major international sporting events.
