Karnataka to Host Mega Event on May 9 Marking 50 Years of BS Yediyurappa’s Public Life

Date:

A major political and public event is being organised in Karnataka to commemorate the completion of 50 years in public life of senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa. The convention, scheduled to be held on May 9 in Chitradurga, is expected to bring together top national and state leaders, religious heads, and a large gathering of supporters.

According to organisers, the event will be formally inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who will also felicitate B.S. Yediyurappa for his long-standing contribution to public service and politics. The programme is being projected as a significant recognition of Yediyurappa’s decades-long political journey and his influence in shaping Karnataka’s political landscape.

Ahead of the main convention, a grand felicitation programme is planned for May 8, which is expected to witness participation from a wide cross-section of society. Organisers have stated that over several lakh people are likely to attend, reflecting the scale and importance of the event. The decision to hold the event in Chitradurga has been made considering its central geographical location in Karnataka, making it accessible for supporters coming from different parts of the state. The organisers have also emphasised that the convention will not be limited to a political gathering but will also serve as a public celebration of Yediyurappa’s long association with grassroots politics and governance.

Senior BJP leaders, including members of the state and central leadership, are expected to participate. In addition, religious seers, writers, artists, farmers, and representatives from various communities have been invited, highlighting the effort to make the event socially inclusive.

Yediyurappa, one of the most prominent leaders in Karnataka politics, is widely credited with strengthening the BJP’s presence in southern India. Over his political career spanning five decades, he has served in multiple key roles, including several terms as Chief Minister of Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister, and Leader of Opposition.

Party leaders have described him as a mass leader with strong grassroots connect, particularly among rural communities. The upcoming convention is being seen as a way to recognise his political longevity, organisational role in building the party in Karnataka, and influence within the Lingayat community, a significant social group in the state.

Preparations for the event are already underway, with committees being formed to manage logistics, security, and crowd coordination. According to organisers, efforts are being made to ensure smooth participation of lakhs of attendees and dignitaries from across the country.

The event is also expected to have political significance, as it comes at a time when the BJP is seeking to strengthen its position in Karnataka ahead of future electoral battles. Leaders within the party view Yediyurappa’s legacy as an important factor in mobilising support and reinforcing the party’s base in the state.

With participation from top national leadership and large-scale public mobilisation planned, the May 9 convention is set to be a major political and social milestone in Karnataka’s contemporary political history.
