The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has carried out a nationwide special campaign to accelerate Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBU) for school-going children. As part of the initiative, Aadhaar services were delivered in more than 1.03 lakh schools, helping nearly 1.2 crore students complete their biometric updates within their school campuses.
Mission-Mode Campaign Across States and UTs
The large-scale drive is being implemented in coordination with UIDAI’s regional offices, state and Union Territory education departments, district administrations, and school authorities. The goal is to make the Aadhaar biometric update process easy and accessible for children without requiring them to visit separate enrollment centres.
By organizing special camps inside schools, the campaign ensured a smooth and convenient update process for students.
UDISE+ Integration Enables Targeted Outreach
The mission-mode campaign was launched in September 2025 after UIDAI successfully integrated its system with the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) platform of the Department of School Education & Literacy.
This technical integration helped authorities identify students whose biometric updates were pending. Based on the data, focused camps were organized to complete the process efficiently.
4,000+ Machines Deployed to Speed Up Process
To ensure effective implementation, UIDAI deployed more than 4,000 biometric update machines across the country. The authority is also working on increasing the number of machines to further enhance the campaign’s reach and pace.
Crucial for Scholarships, Schemes and Entrance Exams
Keeping Aadhaar biometrics updated is essential for students to access government welfare schemes, scholarships, and educational benefits. It also facilitates seamless authentication during registration for major competitive examinations such as NEET, JEE, and CUET.
UIDAI has repeatedly appealed to parents and guardians to ensure that their children complete the biometric update within the stipulated time frame.
Free Biometric Update for Children Aged 7–15
The Aadhaar biometric update is being provided free of cost for children aged 7 to 15 years for a one-year period beginning October 1, 2025. Apart from school-based camps, students can also visit any Aadhaar Enrollment Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra nationwide to complete the process.
Strengthening Digital Identity and Service Delivery
The nationwide MBU campaign highlights UIDAI’s efforts to strengthen India’s digital identity ecosystem. By ensuring updated biometric records, the initiative aims to prevent service disruptions and guarantee uninterrupted access to education-related benefits and government services for millions of students.
