Bengaluru, April 2026: In a major push towards emerging technologies, the Karnataka Cabinet has approved the establishment of a Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence in Biotechnology in Bengaluru, aimed at strengthening the state’s deep-tech ecosystem.
AI-Biotech Centre to Come Up in Electronics City
The proposed centre will be set up at the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB) in Electronics City, one of India’s leading technology hubs.
The project will be developed over four years with an outlay of ₹20 crore, focusing on integrating artificial intelligence with biotechnology research.
Collaboration with Leading Research Institutions
The initiative will be implemented in partnership with the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms, enabling collaboration between academia, startups, and industry.
Officials said the centre will help accelerate innovation in areas such as healthcare, genomics, and bioinformatics.
Strengthening Karnataka’s Tech Leadership
IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge said the move aligns with Karnataka’s vision of leading in next-generation technologies and deep-tech innovation.
He emphasised that the centre will:
- Strengthen the research ecosystem
- Promote AI-driven biotech solutions
- Position Karnataka as a global innovation hub
Boost to AI and Deep-Tech Ecosystem
The project reflects the state government’s broader strategy of investing in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and advanced research infrastructure.

Additional Cabinet Decisions
Alongside the AI-biotech centre, the Cabinet also approved:
- Transfer of a 51% stake in the Karnataka Technology & Innovation Museum Foundation to a private partner
- Development of a Technology & Innovation Museum at NGEF, Baiyappanahalli under a Public-Private Partnership model
