The Karnataka government is set to introduce a revised minimum wage policy for workers, a move that is expected to significantly improve the earnings of labourers across sectors. State Labour Minister Santosh S Lad announced that the new wage structure will soon be implemented, aligning with national guidelines and focusing on ensuring a more dignified standard of living for workers.

A key highlight of the state’s labour reforms is the introduction of India’s first Gig Workers Bill, aimed at safeguarding the rights of workers employed through digital platforms such as ride-hailing and food delivery services. This legislation is expected to provide legal protection, welfare benefits, and improved working conditions for gig workers, a rapidly growing segment of the workforce. The government is also planning to issue smart cards for drivers and cleaners, which will help streamline access to welfare schemes and ensure better tracking of benefits.
