Bengaluru: The annual TCS World 10K marathon in Bengaluru has once again demonstrated the power of collective action, raising over ₹5 crore to support nearly 100 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) across diverse social sectors.
Scheduled to be held on April 26, the marathon has already generated significant funds through its philanthropy platform, which brings together corporates, individuals, and running communities for social causes.
Strong Support Across Sectors
The funds raised will benefit NGOs working in areas such as healthcare, education, sports, nutrition, and animal welfare. Among the top contributors:
- GoSports Foundation led fundraising with around ₹81.9 lakh
- Right To Live and United Way Bengaluru each raised over ₹38 lakh
- Neonates Foundation of India and Bangalore Kidney Foundation made strong contributions in healthcare
- Child Rights and You (CRY) topped the education category
This wide distribution highlights how the event supports a broad spectrum of social causes, ensuring impact across communities.
Corporate and Community Participation
Corporate participation played a key role, with companies contributing substantial amounts. ASM Technologies emerged as a leading corporate donor, raising over ₹74 lakh in support of social initiatives.
At the same time, local running groups and institutions also made notable contributions. Run clubs like JJ Runners raised funds for multiple causes, reflecting the growing role of community-driven philanthropy.
Individuals Drive Change
Individual fundraisers continue to be a major pillar of the marathon’s success.
- Usha Baliga emerged as one of the top contributors, raising around ₹29 lakh
- Young participants also made a mark, including an 11-year-old who raised over ₹1 lakh for animal welfare
- A visually impaired participant raised funds for elderly care initiatives
These stories underline how the marathon is not just a sporting event but also a platform for personal and social transformation.
Growing Culture of Giving
The event has witnessed a steady rise in participation, with over 250 individual fundraisers this year compared to just a handful in its early years.
Over time, the marathon has evolved into one of South India’s largest philanthropy-driven sporting platforms, combining fitness with social impact.
Bigger Impact
Organised annually since 2008, the World 10K Bengaluru has become a major event that blends sports, community engagement, and social responsibility.
Experts say such initiatives play a crucial role in:
- Encouraging civic participation
- Supporting grassroots organisations
- Promoting a culture of giving through accessible platforms
