TTD Plans 100 Crore Venkateshwara Temple in Belagavi to Boost Regional Pilgrimage

Date:

Belagavi (Karnataka): The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has announced plans to construct a grand Sri Venkateshwara temple in Belagavi at an estimated cost of ₹100 crore, aiming to enhance religious infrastructure and serve devotees across multiple states.

The proposed temple will be built on a seven-acre site near Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, a strategic location that connects Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Goa. The land for the project has been donated by the Belagavi Reddy Sangha, marking a key step in the project’s execution.

Project Details and Timeline

Officials said construction is expected to begin within a month and will likely be completed in two years. The funding structure includes:

  • 80% contribution by TTD
  • 10% by the Reddy Sangha
  • 10% through public donations

The temple will replicate the design, rituals, and spiritual experience of the iconic Tirupati shrine, offering devotees a similar darshan experience closer to home.

Facilities for Devotees

The project is not limited to temple construction alone. Plans include the development of:

  • Pilgrim accommodation facilities
  • Prasadam distribution centres
  • Free meal services (Anna Prasadam)
  • Additional infrastructure for visitor convenience

TTD is also exploring the acquisition of nearby land to expand facilities and manage the expected increase in pilgrim footfall.

Strategic Location and Importance

Belagavi’s location at the tri-junction of three states makes it an ideal destination for a major pilgrimage centre. Officials believe the temple will cater to devotees from North Karnataka, Goa, and South Maharashtra, reducing the need for long-distance travel to Tirupati.

The initiative is also expected to strengthen the regional pilgrimage circuit, complementing nearby religious destinations like the Mahalakshmi temple in Kolhapur.

Part of National Expansion Plan

The project is part of TTD’s broader vision to expand the presence of Lord Venkateshwara temples across India, making spiritual access more inclusive. Similar projects are being planned or developed in other states as well.

Bigger Impact

Experts say the temple could transform Belagavi into a major spiritual and tourism hub, boosting local economy, infrastructure, and employment opportunities.

Overall, the ₹100 crore Venkateshwara temple project reflects a growing trend of developing regional pilgrimage centres, bringing religious experiences closer to devotees while supporting regional growth and connectivity.
