President Lula’s India Visit: Ceremonial Welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Key Talks with PM Modi

New Delhi: Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday, marking the beginning of key diplomatic engagements during his state visit to India.

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly received President Lula before the two leaders proceeded to Hyderabad House for high-level bilateral talks.


Focus on Strengthening India–Brazil Strategic Partnership

The bilateral meeting is expected to focus on deepening the India–Brazil strategic partnership across sectors including trade, technology, energy and global governance.

President Lula is on a state visit to India from February 18 to 22 and also participated in the India AI Impact Summit 2026. President Murmu is scheduled to host a state banquet in his honour.


Large Business Delegation and Trade Discussions

President Lula is accompanied by a delegation of nearly 14 ministers and senior executives from leading Brazilian companies. During the visit, multiple ministerial-level meetings and a business forum are being organised to accelerate bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

The engagements are expected to unlock new opportunities for collaboration in key sectors and boost investment flows between the two countries.


Diplomatic Engagements on Multilateral Cooperation

Earlier, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met President Lula to discuss advancing the India–Brazil strategic partnership. He also held talks with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira to explore new avenues of cooperation.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the leaders are reviewing all aspects of bilateral relations while exchanging views on regional and global issues.


Global South and Multilateral Reforms on Agenda

Key discussion points include cooperation in multilateral forums, reform of global governance institutions and strengthening the voice of the Global South.

President Lula’s visit underscores the growing alignment between India and Brazil on global economic reforms, climate cooperation and technology partnerships, reinforcing their shared commitment to inclusive and balanced global development.
