Bellandur Flyover Space Transformed into Vibrant Public Area in Bengaluru

Date:

Bengaluru, April 2026: The space beneath the Bellandur flyover in Bengaluru has been transformed into a clean, vibrant public area, marking a significant step towards improving urban infrastructure and community spaces in the city.

From Dump Yard to Public Space

The under-flyover stretch, once filled with silt, debris, and encroachments, has been redeveloped into a well-maintained and aesthetically pleasing zone.

The transformation involved:

  • Clearing waste and illegal encroachments
  • Landscaping and adding greenery
  • Creating an organised and accessible environment

CSR-Led Urban Transformation

The project was implemented with support from corporate social responsibility (CSR) funding, reflecting a growing trend of private sector participation in urban development.

Officials and civic authorities highlighted this as a model initiative for reclaiming neglected urban spaces.

Facilities for Sanitation Workers

A key highlight of the project is the installation of ‘Suvidha’ cabins for sanitation workers (pourakarmikas), providing them with:

  • Resting areas
  • Basic amenities
  • Improved working conditions

This adds a social welfare dimension to the redevelopment effort.

Toward People-Friendly Urban Spaces

The revamped area is now being seen as a community-friendly public space, contributing to better urban aesthetics and usability. Officials have indicated plans to replicate similar projects across Bengaluru.

Growing Focus on Under-Flyover Development

The initiative aligns with broader efforts by authorities to develop unused spaces under flyovers into parks, walkways, and community zones, enhancing both functionality and visual appeal.
